Actually I tint a number of my images when I don't think color is doing much to help them. On occasion, just turning them into black and white, which is basically a monochrome tint, is another approach.
This particular day, the 20th of February, was quite pleasant with temperatures in the 70s. The colors in the photo were not much to speak of, gray sky, muddy water in the river, no leaves on the barren trees and a man in a kayak some distance off who is dressed in dark clothing. The tint, in my opinion, actually renders the image more cohesive and does not distract from the subject, a river landscape, if you will, with a lone traveler off in the distance. And it is definitely February.
